Between Sizes? Here's How to Size a Compression Vest Properly
When you're between two sizes in a compression vest, size up — a slightly looser compression garment still provides real support and stays comfortable through a full day, while a slightly tight one becomes a distraction by early afternoon.
This is the opposite advice men often expect. With ordinary clothing, sizing down usually means a cleaner, more tailored look. With compression wear, the fabric itself is doing the work of following the body's shape — it doesn't need help from a too-tight fit to look or feel supportive.
What happens if you size down anyway
A too-tight compression vest creates pressure points rather than even support — pinching at the shoulder seams, a waistband that digs in when seated, visible rolling at the edges under a dress shirt. None of that is what compression wear is supposed to feel like, and all of it becomes more noticeable, not less, as the day goes on.
The simple rule
Measure at the chest's fullest point and at the natural waistline, check against the product's size chart rather than a regular T-shirt size, and if the result falls between two sizes, choose the larger one. A vest that fits well disappears under a shirt by mid-morning. A vest that's too small never does.
